The Other Guys

Intitially, I thought this was about the good cops versus the bad guys. See how hunky Dwayne Johnson and Samuel Jackson are at the beginning of the show as Danson and Highsmith respectively until the story writer thinks brawn has no brains. This is when the fun starts where the other guys, Terry Holtz (Mark Wahlberg) and Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) start to partner together. The former has the action whereas the latter is a forensic accountant and they are investigating a financial scandal. Compared to the earlier heroes who lynch the robbers, they chase after scammers which is what thousands of people are feeling frusfrated about.

To the end, there are some statistics about how much money has been lost and how many people become jobless due to the financial turmoil of Worldcom, Enron and also Ponzi schemes. At least we see some justice served on the scammers!

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

After all the vampire movies, I thought this was another one of those boring romance-themed ones. However, be prepared to be gripping the sides of your seat. Two good friends, Darren and Steve, vie for the vampire's attention to be selected as his assistant. Then there are the good and bad vampires. The good guy Darren steals a spider from the vampire (Crespley) who sucks blood out of necessity (i.e. not to kill people).
However, at school Steve who is afraid of spider discovers the spider the wrong way and was bitten to coma. Darren approached Crespley for the anecdote but before that Crespley wants Darrent to become his assistant after being turned into a vampire. Darren agrees and Steve is cured. However, Steve soon finds out that Darren has become Crespley's assistant when Crespley has rejected him due to literally, his evil blood. And so Steve swears to revenge and joins the bad vampires, Vampanese.
So begins the war between the ex-good friends and the vampires versus the vampanese.
The story does not end at the end of the movie. In fact, I hope the producer does follow up soon with the next one.

Alvin & The Chipmunks 2

Due to an accident sufferred by Dave, Alvin and the Chipmunks are now being taken care of by Dave's cousin, Toby. Toby sends them to school according to Dave's wishes. Are they in for a surprise when they meet an all girls' singing team "The Chipettes". This girls team has been set up by Ian to compete with the Chipmunks. The Chipmunks and the Chipettes then will compete in a singing competition, whoever wins gets $25 000 which is the amount that will save their school. Who will win?

The Treasure Hunter

Boss Tu holds the map to treasures of unbelievable riches found in the desert of Nortwest China. Many people have tried to look for the treasure but failed. However, a desperate group of treasure hunters killed Boss Tu to try to take possession of the map. But they failed to get the map as Boss Tu had entrusted it to his protege, Ciao Fei. Ciao Fei was forced to give up the map to save the life of his mentor's daughter Lan Ting.Teaming up with Hua Ding Bang (a famous archaeologist) and Lan Ting they embark on a dangerous journey to recover the map and fight to protect the ancient treasure.

Sherlock Holmes

Though Sherlock Holmes, the movie is set in the 1890s era, the detective will not bore you with his English accent. Instead expect a muscle packed detective with the most brilliant brains in the world. He and his assistant Dr Watson caught the most wanted murderer in London, Lord Blackwood who dabbled in black magic. He was soon executed. He soon rises from the dead to haunt London.

That's when Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson have to solve the mystery fast. There are a few scenes on fighting that make the show more interesting. It's not about trading punches anymore, mind you.

Jake Sully has been assigned to planet Pandora by the army to receive training on assuming the body of a Pa'vi-the native on that planet. The army's plan is to have a human mind take over the genetically built Pa'vi body to be able to interact with the natives and find out about their behaviour. Now Jake Sully is a former marine who has been paralysed from waist down. Imagine how happy he is when on transferring his mind to the body of a Pa'vi he can walk and climb again.

Jake learns about the the Na'vi way of life through Neytiri, the beautiful daughter of the Pa'vi's tribe leader. Soon he falls in love with her and the way of life of the tribe but then the army has learnt enough from Jake about the them.
The army starts to go into the offensive to mine a mineral that is wanted for earth's energy crisis and now it's Jake's turn to save his new found family.
This story is James Cameron's brainchild which he thought about 15 years ago. Then the technology was not available to create the special effects needed for this movie. And it took 4 production years to bring us this cinematic experience you won't forget.

The Princess and the Frog

The Princess and the Frog is a much awaited movie about a black princess. There wasn't any Walt Disney film with a black princess before. This story is based on E.D. Baker's novel inspired by the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale The Frog Prince.

Prince Naveen was transformed into a frog by an evil voodoo master while in New Orleans. Only when a beautiful princess kissed him will he become a human again. When he saw Tiana, he mistakenly thought the young waitress was a princess. As they kissed, we held our breath for a magical transformation of frog back to Prince Naveen. Alas, it was "Princess" Tiana who became a frog!

Therefore, both of them now had to seek out a good voodoo master to undo the cast. Along the way they befriended a trumpet playing alligator and a hopelessly romantic firefly.
They made an awesome group of friends they never knew they needed.
